Pillar 2 Your Inner Game – What’s It All About?

I define coaching as a process to help you to move from where you areĀ  to where you want to be.

The Eight Pillars of Business Prosperity is my coaching system.

Pillar 1 gives you tips on how to establish where you are by learning how to measure and manage for profit.

Pillar 2 focuses on helping you to define where you want to be.

It then gives you guidance on how you can win your Inner Game by identifying and taking the actions to move you from where you are to where you want to be.

Recommendation – Read “The E Myth Revisited” by Michael Gerber

I like clients to read “The E Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work And What To Do About It” by Michael Gerber.

Two chapters in particular changed the way I thought about business

  • Primary aim
  • Strategic objective.

You can read my review on my Business Coaching blog:

E Myth Revisited

Basically Gerber has identified that too many small businesses don’t work because they are not set up right from the very beginning.

The owner doesn’t think like an entrepreneur and design a business but instead thinks and acts like a technician who focuses on doing the technical work.

It’s good stuff although the writing style is a bit sloppy for my tastes.

My big takeaways from the book were that:

  1. You have to live your life with purpose.
  2. You need to design your business to support the life you want.Otherwise there is the danger that the business becomes the master and you work too many hours for too little money as the business has an insatiable demand for your time and energy.
  3. You need to know what you want your business to achieve. This is called your strategic objective by Michael Gerber but can also be considered to be your vision or mission of your business.
  4. To put the business in the right perspective, you need to design what you want from your life – and then identify the role your business plays in your life.

Once you know where you are going you can identify shorter term goals to give yourself energy and focus.

Finding And Focusing On Your Strengths

You can decide what role you play in the business based on your strengths and therefore decide what you will delegate and outsource.

The Strengths Mastery Advantage based on the Kolbe A Index is a very interesting tool for helping you to identify your natural strengths which you should be working with.

Take a look at my review on my Business Coaching blog

Strengths Mastery Advantage

There is a cost but the guarantee is strong.

This information will help you identify where your personal priorities lie – which gives you so much focus and energy – and the push to find the extra resources you need.

It’s not possible to be great at everything.

If you struggle with your bookkeeping for example, you do it slowly and badly, you hate doing it and you are just not a “details person” then you shouldn’t be wasting your time and draining your energy doing it.

The strengths mastery assessment shows you it makes sense to push the task to someone else and use your time more productively – or even to take a rest to re-energise your batteries.

Managing Your Time

Are you always short of time and left wondering where those hours in your day have disappeared to?

That’s certainly the experience for many small business owners.

To get done what needs to be done, self discipline over time management is essential.

Pillar 2 “Your Inner Game” takes you systematically from your Vision and mission to your goals and priorities and ultimately to how you manage your time on a day-by-day basis.

Conclusion

Making your business more effective and making more money means you have to be intentional – to know what you want and how you will get it.

You will find out how to do this in the modules in Pillar 2 on mastering Your Inner Game.
